Virtual Walking Tours of 15 Maya Sites in Mexico
|
Click the small Full Screen icon in the top right corner of the image above to tour Becan archaeological zone. Becan, located near the center of the Yucatán Peninsula in the present-day Mexican state of Campeche, is near the Maya sites of Balamku, Calakmul, Chicanná and Xpuhil, and about 150 km (93 mi) north of Tikal. An unusual surrounding ditch and ramparts at Becan suggest early warfare involving the central Mexican state of Teotihuacán, since green obsidian was found among the city's defenses, and Teotihuacán controlled most sources of green obsidian at that time.
